Arlette Anfield Counselling Brentwood and Hornchurch

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens at the first session?

The first session is an assessment of 50 minutes. This helps to get a good initial sense of your present situation and learn a little about your past, as well as about your hopes for the future. It is an opportunity to say what is troubling you, what has brought you to therapy now and what you would like to achieve by attending. It is also helps us to get to know one another a little better and to see if we are a good fit.

How many sessions will I need?

It is difficult to quantify how many sessions are required. Initially sessions are best offered on a regular weekly basis. Thereafter at mutually agreed times dependant on progress.

How long does each session last?

Each session lasts 50 minutes, unless contracted for longer.

When will I pay?

The fee is payable at the end of each session.

Is what I say confidential?

Yes - client-therapist conversations are private and confidential. Only in very rare exceptions where either your safety or someone else’s safety is at risk would I be obliged to disclose details to another professional. This is a requirement of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy Ethical Framework, which I shall discuss in more depth at our initial meeting.
